• Excessive worry ≥6 months

Panic Disorder

 Palpitations, chest pain, SOB, dizziness, fear 

of dying 

Social Anxiety 

• Fear of scrutiny or embarrassment 
• Avoidance behavior

MDD 

• ≥2 weeks of depressed mood or anhedonia 
• Plus: sleep changes, appetite changes, low energy, guilt, poor concentration, psychomotor changes, SI 

Clinical Subtypes:

• Melancholic (anhedonia, early morning awakening) 
• Atypical (hypersomnia, ↑ appetite) 
• Psychotic depression 
• Seasonal pattern 

Type I 

Mania Criteria (≥1 week or hospitalization):

• Elevated/irritable mood + 3–4 symptoms: 
  • Grandiosity 
  • ↓ need for sleep 
  • Pressured speech 
  • Racing thoughts 
  • Risky behavior

Type II 

• Hypomania (≥4 days, no hospitalization) 
• Major depression dominates clinical burden

4 Symptom Clusters:

1. Intrusion (flashbacks) 
2. Avoidance 
3. Negative mood/cognition 
4. Hyperarousal

Two Domains:

• Inattention 
• Hyperactivity/impulsivity

• Ego-dystonic intrusive thoughts 
• Compulsions reduce anxiety temporarily 

Common Themes:

• Contamination 
• Harm 
• Symmetry

 Difficulty initiating/maintaining sleep .

Alcohol Abuse

 Loss of control, tolerance, withdrawal 

 Emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor, occurring within 3 months of that stressor.

Key Feature:
The reaction is out of proportion to the stressor and/or causes functional impairment

Positive Symptoms:

• Hallucinations 
• Delusions 

Negative Symptoms:

• Flat affect 
• Avolition

Post Partum Depression (PPD) 

• Persistent sadness, crying 
• Guilt (“I’m a bad mother”) 
• Fatigue, poor bonding with baby 
• Sleep disturbance (beyond normal newborn care) 

 Post Partum Anxiety

• Excessive worry about baby’s safety 
• Racing thoughts, inability to relax 
• Often coexists with depression

 Tourette's Disorder

• ≥2 motor tics + ≥1 vocal tic 
• Present for >1 year 
• Onset before age 18

 Persistent Chronic Tic

• Motor OR vocal tics (not both) 
• Duration > 1 year 

Motor:

• Eye blinking 
• Facial grimacing 
• Shoulder shrugging 

Vocal:

• Throat clearing 
• Grunting 
• Sniffing
