Initial Psychiatric Evaluation

Start With a Clearer Understanding

Your first appointment is an opportunity to talk about what brought you to care and how you’ve been feeling. You don’t need a previous diagnosis or a clear explanation of your symptoms.

Your evaluation may include:

• Your current symptoms and their effect on daily life
• Mental health and medical history
• Previous treatment and medication experiences
• Sleep, mood, attention, and stress
• Relevant family history and substance use
• Your preferences, questions, and treatment goals

We’ll discuss our findings and recommendations together. When needed, additional records, testing, or follow-up may help clarify your diagnosis and treatment options.

Medication Management

Informed Decisions About Your Treatment

Medication may be one part of a mental health treatment plan. We’ll discuss whether it may be appropriate for you, explain potential benefits and risks, and consider your preferences.

Medication management may include:

• Reviewing current and previous medications
• Discussing treatment options and alternatives
• Starting or adjusting medication when appropriate
• Monitoring effectiveness, side effects, and interactions
• Reviewing recommended laboratory testing or other monitoring
• Discussing how to safely change or discontinue treatment when needed

Prescriptions depend on your evaluation, clinical needs, and applicable requirements. A specific medication or prescription is not guaranteed.

Follow-Up

Psychiatric Care

Review Progress & Adjust Your Plan

Follow-up visits give us time to discuss how you’re doing and whether your treatment continues to meet your needs.

During these appointments, we may review:

• Changes in symptoms and daily functioning
• Medication benefits and side effects
• Sleep, stress, and relevant life changes
• Questions or concerns about your treatment
• Progress toward your goals
• Recommended next steps and follow-up timing

Appointment frequency depends on your symptoms, treatment, and monitoring needs.

Early Evaluation & Mental Wellness Support

You Don’t Have to Wait Until Symptoms Feel Unmanageable

Changes in sleep, mood, motivation, attention, or worry deserve attention—even if you’re still keeping up with everyday responsibilities.

An early evaluation can help you understand what you’re noticing, explore contributing factors, and discuss appropriate support.

Seeking care does not automatically mean you need medication. Recommendations may include monitoring, therapy, psychiatric treatment, or evaluation by another healthcare professional.

Treatment Review & Continuing Care

Revisit Your Needs With a Fresh Conversation

If you’ve received psychiatric treatment before, we can review your history, current concerns, and goals to determine whether our services are a good fit.

Please bring an updated medication list and relevant treatment records when available. Previous prescriptions are reviewed as part of a new evaluation; continuing the same medication is not automatic.

If you’re transferring care, discuss medication supply and transition arrangements with your current prescriber before ending that treatment relationship.

Support That Considers the Bigger Picture

Mental health care may involve more than one professional. When appropriate and with your authorization, we can coordinate with your therapist, primary care clinician, or other treating professionals.

We may recommend:

• Individual or specialized psychotherapy
• Medical evaluation for symptoms that may have physical causes
• Additional testing or specialist assessment
• A higher level of care when outpatient appointments are insufficient

Our services focus on psychiatric evaluation and medication management. When another service would better meet your needs, we’ll discuss appropriate next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Additional Information

Which appointment should I book as a new patient?

Start with an initial psychiatric evaluation, including if you already have a diagnosis or take psychiatric medication. This helps us understand your history and determine appropriate care.

Can I schedule only for medication refills?

New patients need an evaluation before prescribing decisions can be made. Established patients may need a follow-up appointment or monitoring before a refill is appropriate.

Do I have to take medication?

No. We’ll discuss recommendations and alternatives with you. Your preferences are part of treatment planning, and you can ask questions before deciding how to proceed.

Can all psychiatric services be provided online?

Many evaluations and follow-up visits can take place through telehealth. Suitability depends on your clinical needs, prescribing requirements, and whether an in-person assessment or additional services are needed.

How often will I need appointments?

Follow-up timing is individualized. More frequent visits may be recommended when starting or changing treatment, while ongoing care depends on your progress and monitoring needs.

How much do appointments cost?

Visit our Pricing & Plans page for current self-pay fees and available care plans. Contact the practice before scheduling if you have questions about insurance participation or benefits.
